Lamborghini Enters The Electric Car Market

The auto industry is in the midst of a massive shift incorporating more electric and hybrid vehicles in the auto industry. The luxury Italian sports car brand Lamborghini won’t be left behind in this shift and is developing a plug-in hybrid.

According to CEO Stephan Winkelmann, Lamborghini combines electric motors and powerful batteries with traditional combustion engines to develop a hybrid sportscar. Lamborghini’s target customers are drawn to the exotic car company to look and sound fast have shown they will accept this new type of technology.

Lamborghini’s plug-in hybrids will keep the sound and feel of an internal combustion engine that can be driven aggressively with the vehicle operating under purely electric power at given times. Lamborghini has the goal of offering a plug-in hybrid option for all models by the end of 2024 and reducing overall carbon emissions of its cars by 50% by early 2025.

Lamborghini has invested $1.8 billion (€1.5 billion) in the project over the last four years and faces competition from other exotic car brands. Ferrari already offers a plug-in hybrid model, and McClaren has one coming soon. There are a few fully electric sportscars currently on the market but have extremely limited availability.
