The ‘Rent’ Musical Prequel Movie “Tick, Tick... Boom!”

The hit long-running Broadway musical 'Rent' will be honored with a prequel movie following the life of the Broadway show creator, Jonathan Larson, through his journey on creating 'Rent.'

The long-running Broadway musical ‘Rent’ started with humble beginnings on stage and skyrocketed to success, being adapted into a movie becoming an international sensation. The story of ‘Rent’ started with the aspiring creator Jonathan Larson, and Netflix will be telling his story through the autobiographical musical movie “Tick, Tick... Boom!”

“Tick, Tick... Boom!” is an adaptation of Jonathan Larson’s autobiography detailing his life leading to creating the Broadway sensation ‘Rent.’ Andrew Garfield plays Larson, a young theater composer working a second job as a waiter in New York as he wrote the legendary musical in 1990.

In the film, Larson feels pressure from everywhere leading up to a showcase of his work in a make-or-break performance from his girlfriend Susan, dreaming of an artistic life beyond New York City, and his friend Michael, who moved on from following his dreams for financial security. Larson is surrounded by influences in and out of the artistic community that is being ravaged by the AIDS epidemic that becomes a central theme in ‘Rent.’

Larson feels the pressure of a ticking clock facing the age-old question, “What are we supposed to do with the time we have?” This movie will honor Larson’s legacy with Broadway legend in the making, Lin-Manuel Miranda, taking the helm as director. “Tick, Tick... Boom!” will debut in select theaters and on Netflix this fall, and the trailer is promising a larger-than-life movie honoring Jonathan Larson’s legacy.
