From “Maid in Manhattan” to “Hustlers” we’ve always had a soft place for films featuring Jennifer Lopez in our hearts. By focusing on her extraordinary powers and heritage as a Puerto Rican lady from the Bronx, New York ,J-Lo has created an empire that includes a charity arm, endorsement agreements, and now a production company—Nuyorican Productions Inc.
Since the late 1980s, Jennifer Lopez, 52, has accomplished what only a few others have; she has successfully built careers as an actress, musician, entrepreneur, and businesswoman. “It’s about being the scarce asset,” Lopez recently told Ad week.
So, our beloved icon had just inked a massive entertainment deal. Yes, Jennifer Lopez attempts to take over Netflix. Even better? Well, not one, but two new films are already in production. Lopez announced her new Netflix partnership on Instagram. She posted a beautiful photo of herself with the caption, ‘The best is yet to come.’
Lopez will produce feature films and television shows and scripted and unscripted material through her production firm, Nuyorican Productions, which she co-owns with Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas. According to Netflix, Benny Medina will be a part of the partnership, which will have a “focus on projects that empower diverse female performers, writers, and filmmakers.”
“I am excited to announce my new partnership with Netflix,” Lopez said in the news release. “Elaine, Benny, and I believe there is no better home for us than a forward-leaning content creation company that seeks to defy conventional wisdom and directly market to the millions across the globe who no longer view art and entertainment with the kind of boundaries and limitations of the past.”
“We at Nuyorican Productions are thrilled to find like-minded partners in Ted Sarandos, Scott Stuber, Bela Bajaria, and the whole team and look forward to getting to work right away,” the singer added.
“The Mother,” directed by Mulan’s Niki Caro, narrates the story of a dangerous female assassin who comes out of hiding to teach her daughter how to survive. It is one of the first two projects being produced by Nuyorican Productions.
“The Cipher,” the second film, is based on Isabel Ojeda Maldonado’s novel about FBI Special Agent Nina Guerrera, who escaped a serial murderer when she was 16, but is shocked to learn that the predatory criminal still preys on the vulnerable.
Apart from this, J-Lo is working on two other projects that will be released soon. “Shotgun Wedding” was the first to finish production in April, just when Lopez and boyfriend Alex Rodriguez called off their engagement. Josh Starring Duhamel, the film will be released in theatres on June 29, 2022. The film “Marry Me,” starring Owen Wilson, will be released on Valentine’s Day 2022.
